Volunteer

There is a volunteer opportunity for everyone at the Billerica Cat Care Coalition! Contact Us or Fill out a Volunteer Application

Whether you are retired, work full time or part-time, you can help make a difference in the quality of life experienced by feral, stray and foster cats living in Billerica. Look over the list of volunteer opportunities and pick the task that best suits your schedule, interest or abilities. We will provide you with basic training as you begin working directly with the cats.

Help out when you can - no pressure, no strings attached! Check out the list below and see how you can help Billerica’s cats! If you are interested in helping out or would just like more information about a particular volunteer opportunity, please Contact Us or Fill out a Volunteer Application. We would be happy to hear from you!

FEEDING - Feeding a colony of feral cats is a year-round, daily commitment with dry and wet food provided by BCCC. It is a rewarding experience to become acquainted with all of the cats and to know that you are helping to keep them from going hungry!

TRAPPING - Trapping consists of traveling to a colony and setting and baiting humane traps to capture the cats so they may be sterilized and provided with any medical care needed. Once trapped, the cats are held overnight for transport to the Sunday spay/neuter clinic.

TRANSPORTING - Transporters bring cats who have been trapped to low-cost spay/neuter clinics to be sterilized. Once a month clinics are held on Sundays in Salem or Haverhill, MA or other locations. Drop-off is early a.m. with pickup in the early to mid-afternoon. Transporters are not required to remain at the clinic. You can transport the cat one way or both ways-your choice!

FOSTER CARE - Foster parents care for either cats or kittens by providing a loving environment and daily care consisting of food, water, litter box, medical care, toys and all the other comforts of home. Most important is the time spent socializing the cat so that s/he becomes accustomed to people and indoor life. Fostering is a very rewarding experience as you are helping a needy cat prepare for the new family life every animal deserves. The cost of foster care does not fall solely on the foster parent; many costs are provided for by BCCC. Fill out a Foster Application

COMMUNITY OUTREACH/EDUCATION/PUBLIC SPEAKING - Education is key to helping Billerica’s cats. Explaining Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and the need to sterilize all household pets is the first step in breaking the cycle of generation after generation of feral cats who must struggle to survive. Speaking knowledgeably about the issues facing feral, stray and foster cats to such groups as the Girl Scouts, seniors or students, will help provide factual information about what can be done to help cats in this situation and to prevent the problem from growing. Your public speaking skills are critical in getting this message across to as many people as possible.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS - Needless to say, funds are in short supply in any volunteer organization and fundraising is critical in order to continue providing for the cats. Many hands make light work! Whether it be helping organize the upcoming spring “Chocolate Tasting” or collecting donations in front of the local market, your assistance at fundraising events ensures that BCCC has funds to continue caring for the cats.

Featured Cat

My name is Cassie. I was doomed to live my life outside until a very kind woman called the BCCC who rescued me and my sisters and brothers. I am very sweet and playful but still need to learn to trust a little more. I love to play and cuddle up...
