Donate to the "Good Samaritan" fund
Update on foreclosed home cat rescue: December 2009 - 13 cats and 7 kittens, of which are all purebreed Siamese and Himalayan cats, have been rescued and are now in foster care from this location. A few cats have eluded us, but, BCCC will continue trapping efforts, until all are safely in foster care. None of the cats were spayed or neutered, so we are making sure they all receive full medical care.
A recent home foreclosure in Billerica has left many cats and kittens abandoned and in a quandary with no one to feed or care for them. BCCC has stepped in to assist these domestic cats along with creating the "Good Samaritan" fund. All donations received will pay for food and medical care for these abandoned creatures.
In these hard economic times many folks know someone, a relative, friend or co-worker who is or has faced home foreclosure. Some community members are having a difficult time putting food on the table, let alone providing food or medical care for their beloved pets. Sometimes all they need is a hand up, not a hand out.
Recently, concerned neighbors contacted Billerica Cat Care Coalition once they noticed many abandoned, hungry, crying cats on a foreclosed Billerica property. The owner moved and left 30 hoarded cats behind to fend for themselves. BCCC has stepped in. Daily food and water is now provided by BCCC and others. BCCC is also working with local agencies and rescue groups to get these cats and kittens adopted into their forever home.
The larger issue is many, if not all, of these companion animals are not spayed or neutered and probably have never received any routine medical attention. As many of us who have pets know, veterinarian care can be expensive, especially for spay/neuter surgery, rabies shots, flea treatment, de-worming etc. Using an estimated cost of $200 per cat, then, multiply this cost by 30 cats and the expense to provide immediate medical care to these abandoned cats and kittens is quite overwhelming!
BCCC is asking the public and local businesses for their financial support. Please contribute whatever you can (even $5 will make a difference) to BCCC's newly created "Good Samaritan" fund so that these hoarded, abandoned cats can get the medical attention they so deserve. Donate via Pay Pal or send check to BCCC, P.O. Box 141, North Billerica, MA 01862. Please indicate Good Samaritan fund. Thank you. We appreciate your generosity.
